Ambystomatid salamanders have been shown to have toxic and adhesive secretions which serve as important antipredator mechanisms. Here we show that at least one component in Ambystoma tigrinum secretion inhibits neurotransmission in slices of rat hippocampus. Further, we show that disulfide linkages in proteins are necessary for the adhesive properties of the secretion.
